Kat Von D | Lock It Foundation

I've always wanted to try products from Kat Von D, so back when the product line was released in Debenhams, I waited for Black Friday and managed to get myself a good deal on the foundation and one of her Liquid Lipsticks in the shade Lolita. I've worn this foundation enough times now to be able to write a detailed review on it.

The foundation itself comes in a matte black box with of course Kat Von D's signature logo printed on it, the logo itself can also be found on the bottle. I honestly love the Gothic designs on her products, they are absolutely stunning. Unlike many other foundation bottles, this bottle doesn't have a lid but it just simply has a pump which can be covered by the little cap with the KVD logo imprinted on it. With there being no lid, and no way of getting into the bottle, the chances of your foundation becoming contaminated is unlikely.

Before I go into talking about the formula itself, let's talk about the shades. If I'm correct, there are around 32 shades available. Kat Von D has definitely covered the spectrum with the shades, whether you have super pale skin or super dark skin, I'm sure you will find the perfect shade. The shade I chose was 'Light48 Neutral', I honestly just guessed my shade by searching for swatches online for a good few weeks and on the bright side, it was just the right shade, maybe a tad bit light but I definitely made it work for me.

So Kat Von D claims that her foundation is Full Coverage, Highly Pigmented, Long wearing, Transfer Proof, Fade Free and has a Velvet Matte Finish.'  Honestly, this is a lot of claims for one foundation but does it live up to these claims?

The formula for this foundation is extremely thick. When I say thick I mean really thick, which of course in turn does provide the fullest coverage. It is highly pigmented and it certainly does cover any discoloration/blemishes/redness on the skin. I think the only downfall for this is that, it sets really quickly which means you have to be quick at blending your foundation, so because of this, I would say to work on one area of your face rather than dotting your entire face at one time.

In terms of longevity, I wore this for around 12 hours and it didn't fade and it is probably one of the best foundations for me in terms of long wearing.

If you have dry skin, I would recommend moisturizing your skin properly and applying a hydrating primer beforehand because the foundation can cling to your dry patches. Once applied and fully blended it dries fully matte leaving you with a full coverage finish.

One thing I didn't like about this foundation though was the smell. I can't exactly describe what the scent is, but it isn't very nice. It is quite strong and lasts for a while.

If you're looking for a foundation with full coverage and matte finish then this is the foundation for you. For me, this foundation takes a lot of work as I have very dry skin, but the end finish is amazing once you know how to make it work for you. I don't love this foundation, but I don't hate it either. It retails for around £27 at Debenhams online, I paid £18.90 as I managed to get around 30% discount. For me, I believe that this foundation is worth it for the price I paid.

If you have this foundation what are your thoughts? Do you love it, do you hate it?
